about

Yesterday, fantastic Greater Cincinnati singer/songwriter Wonky Tonk released a new video for her track, “I Don’t Mind.” The clip was directed by Rich Tarbell, who has made videos for local group Wussy, including “North Sea Girls,” which took home the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best Music Video in 2015. Wonky Tonk’s video for a track off of her Love Detox 7-inch, “Four Letter Word” (shot and edited by Dave Morrison), won the music video CEA at last year’s ceremony.

In a Facebook post, Wonky Tonk draws a connection between the two videos.

“You might notice a darker similarity to the themes of ‘Four Letter Word,’ ” she writes. “This video is to serve as a visual bridge between the type of music present in (2015 album) Stuff We Leave Behind and the tunes Wonky Tonk and the HighLife are currently creating.”

The shadowy and watery visuals from the “I Don’t Mind” video are a perfect match for the song’s rolling, dreamy (and ultimately blissfully noisy) atmospherics. Joining Wonky Tonk and HighLife members Eric Dietrich (bass) and Alessandro Corona (drums) on the track are cellist Kate Wakefield (Lung) and guitarist Chuck Cleaver (Wussy).
